For this assignment, you must write a research paper that analyzes the effects of an event—the results of what happens or happened. You must select a topic for which verifiable information is available. Initially, focus on just the effects of your topic. If you find you do not have enough information by focusing on just effects, you may then consider expanding your paper into some of the causes of the topic.
Remember that your first goal is to write a well-focused, unified, coherent, informative essay. Therefore, you must develop relevant reasons and examples, statistics, and opinions from authorities. You must derive this supporting information not only from your own life experience and observations but also from research in appropriate scholarly and expert sources such as specialized magazines, scholarly and professional journals, books, newspaper reports, interviews, and other specialized documents.

Students will analyze the significance and implications of a specific topic by examining the primary and secondary effects of an event. Students should demonstrate the ability to move beyond the obvious effects in the process of analysis.
Evaluation
Students will evaluate sources of information in the process of researching their chosen topics. Sources should be evaluated for validity, relevance, and accuracy.

The full scope of your research will depend on your topic; however, in your final paper you must cite and properly document source support from at least four sources, including:

Topics for Consideration:

- The causes or effects of something you have experienced: effects (regular exercise, credit card debt, job loss, pet ownership, work related stress, poor diet, postpartum depression, sleep deprivation, diabetes, etc.). Picking a topic you have experience with will often make it easier to write the paper since you have personal experiences to draw upon. Note that the majority of the paper should be written in third person, but you could use a limited amount of first person (I) to convey personal experience.
Organization:
Introduction
Clearly introduce your topic in an engaging manner. Clearly state your thesis and clarify the scope of your analysis. It’s usually a good idea to clearly state your points of analysis (the effects you plan to discuss).
Body (Several Paragraphs)
Use the body of the paper to discuss the effects you have identified. Use examples, personal experience, and your researched information to develop each body paragraph. Make sure you clearly introduce your sources with signal phrases. Cite all sources in MLA format with clear in-text citations.
Conclusion
Clarify the significance of your topic and reiterate your overall purpose. Try to avoid restating what you have already said. Leave your reader with a lasting impression
