The movie is La la Land. The 2017 one.
This assignment asks you to write a 8 to 10 page paper analyzing an American film in terms of its critical merit as either a useful example of realism at the time
of its initial release, its auteurship, as a great work of independent cinema, as a meaningful
demonstration of genre conventions or as an exemplar of genre innovation. You must
construct an original argument, or a thesis that anchors and organizes your filmic analysis
and incorporate information from film studies where appropriate to support your reading of
the film.
Your papermust have a thesis.
-A thesis is usually a single sentence that presents your argument to the reader.
-A thesis is more than a statement of fact. It gathers and organizes the evidence that
persuades your reader of the logic of your interpretation.
-The best thesis statements often construct their arguments by placing the media object
within a larger historical or social context as a hallmark of creative revolution or as a
reflection of larger cultural shifts in the social world beyond the screen.
