The topic of your researched argumentation essay must be selected from current events. “Current events,” as defined for this essay topic, include those issues, incidents, and phenomena that have been in the news within the past 3 years. Your topic does not need to be political in nature, although you are welcome to write about political events. Nor does your essay have to be about events in the United States, although, again, you are welcome to write about events in the U.S.
If you have an interest in technology, you might, for example, choose to write about self-driving cars or about privacy in the age of social media. If science is your passion, acceptable topics include, but are not limited to, alternative energy sources or genetically modified foods. If social issues interest you, consider, for instance, the immigration issues in the United States or access to affordable health care.
Outside Sources: You must use a MINIMUM of five outside sources for this essay. You must include in-text citations as well as a separate Works Cited page. The Works Cited page does not count toward the 5-page essay length. You must use the current MLA style for creating both your in-text citation and your Works Cited page. Thesis Statement:
Provide a clear thesis statement that makes a claim. That claim must be debatable. Ask yourself: “Is this something about which reasonable people disagree?” If your claim is generally accepted (e.g., spouses should not abuse each other), then the argument goes nowhere. Likewise, if your claim is beyond the pale (e.g., men should be able to hit their wives, or vice versa), it goes nowhere.
Determine your thesis early in your composition process. The thesis will guide your organization and any necessary research. I recommend that you place your thesis at the end of your introduction, unless your thesis is so controversial or requires so much background information that placing the thesis in the middle or at the end of the essay would make for a more convincing and/or comprehensible argument.
Body Paragraphs:
Remember that your body paragraphs should support that thesis. If a body paragraph does not directly support the thesis statement, then ask yourself whether that paragraph belongs in your essay. In some instances, a paragraph provides indirect support to the thesis by supporting or explaining another paragraph that does directly support the thesis. This is referred to as indirect support.
Because this is a longer paper (5 pages), you will most likely have more than one paragraph per main point. This means that your discussion will be more detailed. This does not have to be a five-paragraph essay! You can have more than two supporting points/pieces of evidence for each argument. You should not have fewer than two, however.
Think carefully about how you order your reasons/arguments. You will most likely want to order them from most familiar to least familiar or from least important (weakest) to most important (strongest). However, if your thesis is extremely controversial, and you feel that you will be making a hard sell, you may choose to invert that order by beginning with your most important (strongest) reasons/arguments and moving to your least important (weakest) reasons/arguments.
Response to the Opposition:
You must include a response to opposing views in this essay. You may choose to refute or disprove the oppositions claims in a paragraph after your introduction or before your conclusion. Or, you may choose to respond to various opposing viewpoints here and there throughout the essay, as they relate to your particular arguments reasons.

Mention the arguments from the other side of the issue: warehouses are offering more jobs than any other industry and they pay more than regular retailers.
