This exam makes up 100% of the final course grade. It is an open book exam – the use of notes or course reading material is allowed. The use of any material not associated with this course (with the exception of authorized dictionaries) is strictly prohibited, including websites and databases. The exam is an individual assignment: collaboration or communication between test takers is strictly prohibited, and special measures will be used to detect and flag any instances of plagiarism. The exam consists of two essay questions, each worth fifty percent (50%) of the overall grade. Because this is an open book exam, special attention should be given to providing clear, cogent analysis with specific examples relating to the course material.

PART I: Essay questions
Instructions: Answer both of the essay questions, fifty (50) points each. Your exam should be typed in 12 pt. Times New Roman font, with 1.5-line spacing and regular margins. Both essays should not exceed eight (8) typed pages in accordance with the guidelines provided.
- To what extent is the Arab-Israeli conflict (and all the bilateral conflicts therein) intractable? In your analysis, make sure to clearly identify stakeholders and their interests to illustrate what aspects are and which are not intractable. You must provide examples from at least three (3) bilateral relations/conflicts.
- Explain how the basic characteristics of Israel’s Foreign Policy, including the primacy of national security, determined the principles of Israeli policy toward the conflict over the years. In your answer, be sure to examine both domestic and international factors that shape Israeli leadership and decision-making. You must provide examples from at least three (3) Israeli administrations.
