5.2.Explain how and in what circumstances different methods are used for assessing, recording and monitoring children and young people’s development in the work setting.

Consider how you:

  • Meet the child’s unique needs and interests
  • Involve the child in their own learning
  • Ensure all children are included and receive a broad balanced curriculum; systematic
  • Support and inform parents
  • Share information with colleagues, or other professionals when necessary
  • Ensure that progress is being made
  • What you do when you have a concern?

5.3.Explain how different types of interventions can promote positive outcomes for children and young people where development is not following the pattern normally expected.

  • What do you do when a child is not making the progress you expect?
  • What kinds of intervention (strategies) do you use?
  • How does this help the child? (Consider early interventions)

5.4.Evaluate the importance of accurate documentation

What does documentation need to be, in order to be valid? Dated,  Objective,  In different situations, Over a period of time, By different observers, including the child, The correct method, Why is it important that we ensure all of this?

  • 1 & 5.2 – Answer together – What methods are there, which do you use, how and why do you use them.
  • 3 – What do you do when you have a concern, how does this help the child.
  • 4 – What makes documentation accurate and why, why is accuracy important.
