2. Lifelong singles is a term that is used when a person has never been married and has been
single their whole life. Being a lifelong single doesn’t technically mean that the person is single
or lives by themselves. A person could be in a committed relationship and still live by
themselves and be considered to be single as stated in the book. One big advantage of being a
lifelong single is not being tied down to anyone. My uncle is a lifelong single in a big city and
because he is not tied down to anybody he has the ability to travel wherever he wants in an
instant. Another advantage to being a lifelong single would be having limited expenditures.
When you are in a relationship or have a family you need to pay for more things. When you live
by yourself you can get a smaller apartment or home, spend a smaller amount on groceries, etc.
With having many advantages there are also some disadvantages. One disadvantage that lifelong
singles may have would be worrying about not having anyone who could take care of them in
their older years. Normally, if a person had a spouse or even a child those people would be able
to take care of them when they are older and are in need of help. That being said this worry can
be eliminated if the person is connected to any relatives and or has a close group of friends.
Another disadvantage would be the possibility of loneliness. There have been studies I’ve
learned in other psychology classes that have shown that having a spouse grants a longer and
happier life. Having a spouse also grants the opportunity to be able to grow wealth together. The
advantages and disadvantages of being a lifelong single can differentiate from person to person.
Some may think that the advantages listed in this discussion may outweigh the disadvantages and
some may think the exact opposite. My uncle can be considered a perfect example of advantages
outweighing the disadvantages of being a lifelong single.

3. There are quite a few advantages and disadvantages to being childless for couples explained in
the book. For instance, Canario and Figureiredo (2016), discuss the decline in the couple’s
relationship after having their first child. This decline can be related to many things. So, it goes
without saying that if the couple remains childless, they will not have to worry about a child
taking a toll on their relationship. The book also talks about the fact that women whom do not
have children tend to excel more at their careers. This could be an advantage on both the woman
and the man, it can give the woman more sense of self-worth and the man does not have to work
so hard at trying to provide financial stability for two. Being childless also has its disadvantages.
The author of the book talks about her father in-law dying and leaving his wife at age 64 to do
life on her own. However, she never actually was alone, she had three adult children that lived
close and seven grandchildren that could also help. With the big family there was always
someone to check up on her. In a couple that remains childless, once one dies, the spouse that is
left living doesn’t get the luxury of falling back on the family they created. A second
disadvantage is that the couple will never get to experience the joys of parenthood. Adulthood in
itself has its own family timetable that is supported with milestones. When a couple remains
childless, they never get to experience thing such as; the joy of watching their child take their
first step, the pure happiness of hearing your child say momma or daddy for the first time,
watching your child get happy over the little things, etc. Some may not look at those as
disadvantages, it really just depends on the person and the future the envision for themselves.
