Assessment 3: Essay (2500 word limit + or – 10%) You are required to write an essay focusing on a particular clinical quality or safety issue that you have identified in your workplace. Assume that you have been asked to implement an improvement project focusing on the safety or quality issue you have identified- however before you are permitted to begin the PDSA cycle you need to provide some background to the issue and any Quality Improvement (QI) project you undertake. Your essay should address the following points in relation to the QI project you have identified: • Discuss your rationale for identifying this particular issue as a safety or quality risk. Use the literature and incident or other information reports that have been generated to support your assertions that your improvement project topic is in fact a safety and quality issue in your organisation (review Module 1, 3, 4, 6 • Discuss the system and human factors that impact on the safety or quality issue in your organisation (review Module 2,3,4) • Discuss what you would be trying to accomplish with the QI project (aims) and how you will know that the improvement has achieved this goal (outcome measures) (review Module 6) • Discuss how you could involve consumers as significant stakeholders in the improvement strategy/ies (review Module 5) The essay should NOT cover the actual mechanics of the PDSA strategy that you might be using for your QI activity. The report should be a scholarly (including Title page with essay title, student name and number, and headings for each section), Size 11 or 12 font, 1.5 line spacing, and include a variety of current (less than 5 years) referenced literature with a minimum of references. APA 7th referencing will be required when citing the work of authors. All assignments must have the student number on each page of the assignment. You must stay within the word limit. Any text over and above the word limit is not marked and so this will have a detrimental effect on your overall grade. The end text references are not included in the word limit.
