Write a persuasive argument either for or against a universal health care system. You must compare the United States to two other countries – one from the Global North and one from the Global South (global north and global south). THIS IS NOT BASED ON THE EQUATOR, use the link to see the difference. Use the Internet to locate data from the World Health Organization (http://www.who.int/en/). Objective: To research the differences between countries with a Universal Healthcare System and those without this system in place. Introduction (10 points): Introduce the two countries you picked and why you chose those countries. Please remember Africa and Europe are NOT countries. Thesis statement needs to include if you will be writing for or against a universal system. BODY Part 1 (100 points): You must pick 2 countries, one in the Global North and one in the Global South. Not the United States. Global North and Global South is determined by the socioeconomic systems of the country, not the equator. For example, Australia is in the southern hemisphere but is a Global North country. Research these countries on the healthcare system. You should find information including what type of healthcare system is in place, when did the system go into place, costs involved in implementing the system, how did the government implement the system and the history of the country. You need to also research whether this is a successful system or not. How did the system affect the overall well being of the people. Explain the problems with the system. 40 points for each country. Each country should be a minimum of 2 pages. You will need a minimum of 2 academic, peer reviewed sources for each country. You have access to the databases in the library. Sign into the library through the school email. Part 2 (90 points): This part is theory. You must write a minimum of one page for each perspective using a minimum of 3 academic, peer reviewed sources (one for each perspective). Explain the perspective in general. What is conflict perspective, functionalism, and symbolic interactionism. Explain how each perspective views healthcare, both ways as a universal system and a capitalist system. Each perspective should be a minimum of 1 page (3 pages total) with a minimum of 6 sources (one academic for each) (90 points). Part 3 (60 points): Argument for or against a universal healthcare system in the United States. Pick a side – either for or against a universal healthcare system in the United States. Research 3 arguments to make your point. You must include at least 1 academic, peer reviewed source for each argument. Must have a minimum of 6 sources total). Each argument is worth 20 points. This sections should be a minimum of 3 pages. You may use the research in part 1 to help argue your points for this section. This is a persuasive argument. Use critical thinking skills or what someone on the opposite side may contradict your viewpoint. Conclusion (10 points): Write a clear convincing conclusion stating why I should be on your side of the argument. You may include limitations to your argument.
