Social Action Project

In social action projects, students typically work cooperatively with other class members on initiatives they help to identify, plan and direct. A social action project prepares students to identify, plan and carry out solutions to problems within their school, community and beyond. The goal is active citizenship through thoughtful, cooperative, critically engaging, and responsible action.

Projects that engage students in acting on their beliefs take many forms. Social action projects involve students in volunteer activities, generally for established community groups, and on an individual basis. For example, students may volunteer their time for a community service organization such as an animal shelter, or food bank.

You are to pick an organization and participate in some social action activity such as fund raising, volunteering at events, making phone calls, or cleaning-up a beach or other area. Other activities include:

You are to spend at minimum of ten (10) hours volunteering. You are to provide written verification of your participation by the managers of the activity/organization. This can be scanned, a photo taken and emailed to yourself and then uploaded into the drop box. You are to write a 1–2-page summary descripting your experience volunteering and what you gained/learned from the experience. This assignment is worth 50 points
