Global destruction of communities, poverty, death … almost four decades in, are we in a better place?
AIDS is very different in the US than elsewhere in the world, particulalry Africa. How or in what ways does AIDS track differently in these spaces?
In war, we fight each war the way we should have fought the previous war. In disease, we use lessons from the past to improve. In many ways, AIDS occurred in an odd historic moment: famine and civil strife in much of Africa; a rise in the religious (and political) right in the US; almost conquering and eliminating tuberculosis globally. How did some, none or all of these factors influence how AIDS was viewed?
There are always artistic responses to disease, as many of you have demonstrated over the previous modules. Is the way that art is used in AIDS different, or the same, as other diseases?
