Design and analysis of a composite seat tube Initial analysis A client has asked you to analyse an circular tube that will form part of a new range of racing bike frames. They are considering varying tube lengths and diameters as part of their new design: lengths 470 mm to 630 mm and outer surface diameters 25 mm to 44 mm. They require additional data on the performance of the tube under bending. You may analyse the structure as a clamped-clamped beam subjected to a uniformly distributed load shown in figure 1. The material is Carbon/Epoxy details given in table 1. Between your group you need to characterise the performance of a range of top-tube lengths and diameters. You do not need to present detailed results from all analyses (only the failure load and deflection) but you should show a representative analysis of at least one case. The initial laminate design is fully-isotropic1 laminate composed of 24 plies layup := [ ? 45 0 +45 90 +45 90 0 90 ?45 +45 ?45 0 ? 45 0 90 0 +45 ?45 +45 90 +45 90 ?45 0] The work expected to be done by ukwritings on this report is ; Manufacturing and Sustainability The client has asked for your opinion on an effective manufacturing process. Present and contrast two approaches for high/low volumes of production. As part of this you should comment on end-of-life implications for the material and how sustainable it is. You may also recommend an alternative material if you feel it is appropriate. You should support your claims with appropriate primary sources i.e. do not just refer to the course notes Manufacturing and Sustainability Comparison of manufacturing approaches. Discussion of environmental and sustainability. Appropriate use of sources
