Each student will read The Trusted Executive by John Blakely. Students will then provide a concise summary and critique of the key concepts presented by the author. Remember that this is not a book report it is a critique. You are to read and then analyze the author’s work, and finally provide your own interpretation of the utility and validity of it in today’s environment. The key difference between a book report and a critique is that the book report is merely a summary of what the author says, whereas a critique is a critical analysis of the work. You do not have to agree with the author, but you do have to understand, analyze, and critically review what the author says in the work. The ‘average’ book critique is between 4-5 pages. Examine for example, the role of leadership and values together with specific examples from the book and other resources to argue your perspective and support your case for or against Blakely’s approach to leadership.
Examine if the role of business leadership changed from “trust in power to the power of trust” and the Milton Friedman profit driven model to a need for a trusted leader. Are the two compatible?
