Above are the week seven readings. You may choose whichever topic you would like below, but please use at least two of the readings above.
This section of the course is devoted to how societies are governed in the ancient world– both in terms of law codes and types of government. For this paper, select one of the week 7 readings as the basis of your paper. Use this text as a starting point to discuss one of the following ideas in your paper:
The role of law in society
The power of government
Individual rights and responsibilities
The best form of government
The role of religion in ancient law or government.
Your paper should include at least one other text (but no more than 2 other texts for a maximum of 3 total texts). Your paper should have a clear argument that explains your viewpoint on the element of law/government/society you’re going to focus on. If you would like to write on a different, but related, subject please talk to your discussion leader about the feasibility of your focus at least a week before the paper is due.
General Guidelines
Length: 3 to 4 pages (not including works cited) [Double-spaced, 1 inch margins, a normal 12 pt. font]
Works Cited: must be written according to MLA, Chicago, or APA style guides (see WebCampus for resources); you should note on your paper which style you’re following on your works cited page
If you use information discussed in lecture, discussion, or from someone’s Reading Review, you must include it in your works cited.
Don’t forget to include a citation even when you paraphrase (failure to do so is a form of academic dishonesty)
