Our text, HIPAA by Example, focuses on the application of privacy laws as defined within the parameters of HIPAA and other corresponding legislation current through 2013. However, each year regulating bodies may review, recommend and update laws that impact the scope, application and monitoring of HIPAA requirements.
Your assignment is to research changes that have been implemented since/after 2013 and proposed changes being currently discussed in 2020. Write a brief paper outlining: 1. what you consider to be the most significant of these changes, 2. the need for the change and 3. how it impacts the healthcare industry — whether in a specific setting/environment or the industry as a whole. You may discuss one or more changes. The paper should be 3-5 pages in length and you should also include links to your online sources. The reference page does not count toward the length requirement.
The paper will be graded based on the following criteria:
1. The legitimacy of the change presented with corresponding references/links (15%).
2. The accuracy of your description when presenting the HIPAA change(s) (20%)
3. The clarity and organization of your thoughts in analyzing the need and impact of the changes (yep, this includes spelling, grammar and sentence structure, as well as developing the points of your analysis) (25%)
