While laws are meant to provide a framework for the perfection of justice the law is also an institution constructed by societies in specific times and places expressing certain values. Many of the women youve learned about in this unit considered certain laws unjust and challenged those laws both within the legal system and by directly defying it with varying degrees of success and paying in some cases very high personal costs for doing so.
